The next innovation to salwar kameez after churidar was the short kurta pant. With westernization the salwar kameez adapted to fashion changes in the West in terms of cut, length and hemlines. The kurta did sneak up quite a few inches above the knee. And instead of the salwar, pants were worn, making it ideal for office and formal wear.

The short kurtas came in different styles, some embroidered some plain. The pants came in parallel, capris and bell-bottom styles.

Short kurtas are also called as kurtis.

For the fashion conscious, there are trends to follow every season. from the net dupatta and simple shirt-like lines of the '50s, to the boat-necks and the tight, difficult-to-walk-in kurtas of the '60s. The kurta keeps changing its shape, length and the number of pleats according to the fancies of the fashion world. Though the style always remains the same; the colour and cut changes with every season!

For some time now, the salwar kameez and churidar kurta have co-existed with what can be typically called fusion wear. we have witnessed a resurgence of short kurtas worn with pants.

Heavy embellished embroideries have been replaced with laces, borders and patch work. More focus is being given to the cut, color combinations and silhouette.

Emphasis on femininity is strong and colours like rust, green and all shades of blue are predominant.

One also sees design details like fastenings, buttons, panelling, sequins, tube beads and hand embroidery. the necklines are interesting, the designers do not believe in layering because it just adds bulk to a person's frame.

Short kurta pants are designed keeping the accent always on comfort, wearability and affordability.

Variation of salwar kameez seems to offer limitless design possibilities.

Indo-Western

The fusion of styles in Indian clothing and western clothing resulted in Indo western salwar kameez. These salwar kameez suits are specially designed to give western look with Indian tradition. An Indo western salwar kameez suit may have a sleeveless top and a salwar. Indo western salwar kameez suits also come in spaghetti straps instead of sleeves.

Designers have pioneered the concept of blending ethnic ethos and international trends to give a modern and trendy look to contemporary Indian women

The cliché that dressing is done to please others has become passé. Today's generation wears clothes to please themselves. Even designers belonging to the younger breed carry the same chip on their shoulder. "Designer inspiration varies with attitude and the 'in thing.' Detailing is important. Today's generation wants to show off their body without appearing obscene," says NIFT graduate Gunjan Karmakar.

Miss Universe 2000 Lara Dutta won the award for the most outstanding evening gown designed by Ritu Kumar. Author of a well-received book Costumes and Textiles of Royal India, she is considered a pioneer in Indian fashion. Her Indo-Western fusion wear has trappings of block prints, embroidery and craft inputs.

Churidar kurta

Churidar kurta is also a very popular Indian dress amount the urban class. It can be said churidar kurta has evolved from the salwar kameez. Salwar kameez is a loose fitting dress where as the churidar kurta is a more body hugging dress. Churidar kurta is more preferred by ladies who are fit and comfortable showing off their curves. The main difference in a churidar kurta from a salwar kameez is its pants. The pants in a churidar kurta suit are known as a churidar. A churidar is a body hugging pant and is longer than the legs. The extra fabric gathers at the ankles giving them a look of chuddis (bangles) hence the name churidar.
A traditional churidar has a drawstring at the waist, this drawstring needs to be drawn and tied at the waist. Generally women tie a one knot and half. Modern churidars are designed with an elastic band at the waist. This is very convenient for first timers and foreigners.

The churidar pant has further evolved into leggings, leggings are pants cut in a churidar fitting and are made of stretch material. Leggings hug the legs and really flaunt all the curves. Some designers are even designing churidars in denim material too.

The kurta of kurta churidar and kameez of salwar kameez are not very much different. Except that the kurta maybe shorter then its counter part, the kameez.

Churidar kurta looks very good on tall women.

Both Salwar kameez and Churidar kurtas are made from variety of fabrics including cotton, silk, net, crepe, georgette, brocade, and jacquard. Items used the embroidery are sequins, beads, zari, kori, stones cut dana etc. Designers are now-a-days using different beautiful fabrics as laces to design the suits. Materials like Borcade are used extensively.

If the embroidery on the kurta is light then the dupatta has heavy embroidery. Generally the dupatta matches the color of the churidar. Or it may even be bi-color. Dupattas are made of the following fabrics, Net, georgette, crepe and silk. It may have a piping of contrast color. Piping on the border adds to the beauty of the dupatta.

Salwar kameez

Salwar kameez is made of a long tunic called a kameez and pajama-like trousers drawn tightly in at the waist using a draw string is called a salwar. A salwar suit is also accompanied by the dupatta.

Today the salwar kameez stands as the second most popular women’s dress in most parts of India. The popularity and comfort of the salwar kameez has reached such stupendous heights that most of the new breed designers have started channelizing a major portion of their creative abilities to give this ensemble a new look. Varying from the ethnic touch to the cocktail look, the salwar kameez has evolved to suit all occasions. What could be better and more creative than adaptation of designs and embroideries of various countries on salwar kameez. Salwar Kameezs are now entering the mainstream and the West is finally embracing it. Proof of that is the fact that celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and even former first lady Hilary Clinton wore Salwar Kameezs in some of the events that they've attended.

Salwar Kameezs are pajamas worn with a long outer garment called a kameez. Kameezs are traditionally loose fitting but tight salwar kameezs are now gaining popularity especially among the young.

Salwar kameez has many different names. Call it Kurta churidar or Punjabi suit
A churidar is similar to the salwar but is tighter fitting at the hips, thighs and ankles more like leggings. Over this, one might wear a collarless or mandarin-collar dress called a kurta.

Usually salwar kameez is made up of different types of fabrics including silk, cotton, linen etc, but the most common type of fabric that is primarily used to prepare salwar kameez is cotton. Most of the salwar kameez are well decorated by beautiful embroidery work using different pattern fabrics.

Salwar Kameez is a type of clothing which is wears by both men and women but the only difference is that men mostly wear plain salwar kameez while women wear decorated one. The other difference is that women also use shawl or dupatta with salwar kameez to cover their head and neck to show respect to their elders.

With the change in time, salwar kameez also gets more modern looks. Now a day’s salwar kameez become more fancy and stylish. Modern salwar kameez generally include stylish necklines, transparent fabrics, and daring cuts. These changes make salwar kameez a more fashionable outfit for all type of occasion such as wedding etc. Now a day’s women usually wear kameez over jeans, slim pants or leggings and a scarf or stole as a substitute for the dupatta for a different look.

salwar

For every day wear, you can have in your wardrobe salwar kameezs in simple cuts with minimal embroidery. Nowadays designers have come with innovative Indo-Western salwar kameez designs as per the demands of the working women in urban areas. These team up with kurtas with slim pants or leggings and a scarf or stole as a substitute for the dupatta.

For Festive occasions like Diwali, Durga pooja and Eid you can wear designer wear salwar kameez or Party wear salwar kameez. You can wear bright, festive colors, with lots of bling in styles like the Anarkali that look elegant. Using the right accessories to compliment your designer wear is also very important. Wearing an elegant jewelry will really enhance the look accompanied with a few bangles. You can dress up a simple salwar kameez with a heavy dupatta or gorgeous jewelry. Similarly, downplay a heavy outfit with a simple neckpiece or a set of earrings.

Salwar Kameez helps keep cool on those hot sweltering days, as it doesn't cling to the body.

In the 1960s, the most sensational fashion discovery of all times hit the West - the mini. The skirt went an inch above the knee and then higher and higher till there was nothing left to the imagination. The Indian woman was not as daring, but the kameez did sneak up quite a few inches above the knee.

The salwar kameez adapted to fashion changes in the West in terms of cut, length and hemlines. It was a long journey for this peasant attire from the fields of Punjab to the fashion capital of India, Mumbai.

Pollution
What is pollution?
Pollution is the introduction of a contaminant into the environment. It is created mostly by human actions, but can also be a result of natural disasters. Pollution has a detrimental effect on any living organism in an environment, making it virtually impossible to sustain life.

What is Pollution Prevention?

Pollution is the contamination of air, soil, or water by the discharge of harmful substances. Pollution prevention is the reduction or elimination of pollution at the source (source reduction) instead of at the end-of-the-pipe or stack. Pollution prevention occurs when raw materials, water, energy and other resources are utilized more efficiently, when less harmful substances are substituted for hazardous ones, and when toxic substances are eliminated from the production process. By reducing the use and production of hazardous substances, and by operating more efficiently we protect human health, strengthen our economic well-being, and preserve the environment.
Why are the different types of pollution?
Pollution harms the Earth’s environment and its inhabitants in many ways. The three main types of pollution are:
Land Pollution
Land pollution is pollution of the Earth’s natural land surface by industrial, commercial, domestic and agricultural activities.
What are the sources of land pollution?
Some of the main contributors to land pollution are:
  • Chemical and nuclear plants
  • Industrial factories
  • Oil refineries
  • Human sewage
  • Oil and antifreeze leaking from cars
  • Mining

  • Combustion of coal
  • Acid rain
  • Noise pollution from cars and construction
  • Power plants
  • Manufacturing buildings
  • Large ships
  • Paint fumes
  • Aerosol sprays
  • Wildfires
  • Nuclear weapons

How to Prevent Air Pollution
The number one way to prevent air pollution is to walk or bike more and drive less. This will prevent fossil fuels from polluting the air. Here are some other ways to prevent air pollution:

  • Always replace your car’s air filter
  • Use a push or electric lawnmower rather than a gas-powered one
  • Don’t use harsh chemical cleaners that can emit fumes
  • Inspect your gas appliances and heaters regularly
Water Pollution
Water pollution is the introduction of chemical, biological and physical matter into large bodies of water that degrade the quality of life that lives in it and consumes it.
What are the sources of water pollution?
Some of the main contributors to water pollution are:
